Get the freedom you need with delegation

As I sit here by the side of the sea I feel so relaxed. This downtime feels incredible and I have loads of new ideas running through my head. We all need some rest and relaxation from time to time and we shouldn’t feel guilty from taking that well earned time out. You may be thinking to yourself why is she working whilst on holiday, but to me, this isn’t work, blogging is what I love!

When you’re a business owner, the preparation of going away on holiday is even more stressful. Not only did I have to make sure I’d packed for the 3 of us, I had to make sure all client work I’d agreed to do before my holiday was completed and that everything I could delegate to the team in my absence was added to Asana.

Have we got the passports? Have I added the boarding passes to my Apple wallet? Have I booked the car park, the fast track through security and the travel insurance? Oh and I need to nip to town to get some currency too. The list is endless when preparing for a holiday. But we don’t let that put us off do we? The idea of being in the sunshine and being able to relax outweighs all the stress we go through beforehand.

I speak to so many business owners who are so overwhelmed with running their business that they can’t even contemplate booking a holiday. One reason you choose to run your own business is to get the freedom to do what you want when you want. In reality it doesn’t happen the way you plan it to. But, with the right support, like I have, you can definitely go on that well deserved holiday.

The Importance of Delegation

Delegation is key. Without it, taking time off would be impossible. As a business owner, it's crucial to build a team you trust. Having systems in place, like Asana or other project management tools, ensures that tasks can be tracked and managed efficiently. Delegating tasks not only helps in freeing up your time but also empowers your team, giving them a sense of responsibility and ownership.

Virtual Assistance: Your Secret Weapon

This is where a Virtual Assistant (VA) comes in. VAs can handle a variety of tasks, from administrative duties to more specialised tasks, allowing you to focus on your core business activities. Imagine having someone to manage your emails, schedule meetings, handle customer enquiries, and even manage your social media while you're soaking up the sun. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it can be your reality.

Plan Ahead for Peace of Mind

Planning is crucial when you're preparing to go on holiday. Make a checklist of everything that needs to be done before you leave. This could include notifying your clients in advance, setting up an out-of-office email response, and making sure all ongoing projects are on track. The more organised you are, the more relaxed you'll be on your holiday.

Enjoy the Benefits

Taking a holiday is not just about rest; it's about rejuvenation. When you return, you'll find yourself more productive, creative, and motivated. Your business will benefit from your renewed energy and fresh ideas. Remember, your mental and physical health are just as important as your business.

I can’t wait to put all my ideas into action when I get back! (However, I am not wishing my holiday away!)

Take the Leap

If you're feeling overwhelmed, it might be time to ask for support. Don't let the fear of leaving your business unattended hold you back from enjoying a well-deserved break. At Two Birds Resources, we specialise in providing the support bookkeepers, accountants and business coaches need to ensure your business runs smoothly, even in your absence. Reach out to us and take the first step towards a more balanced life.

So, as I sit here by the pool, sipping on my cocktail, I encourage you to take that leap. Plan your holiday, delegate tasks, and most importantly, enjoy your time off. You've earned it!
